STRATFORD -- \"Extra, extra, read all about it, Swatches \" shouted a performer taking on the role of a newsboy to call attention to the start of an unusual fashion show at the Stratford Ramada Inn Friday.

Models in one segment of Salons\' Hair Showcase, Fantasy Hair Competition and Barber Competition wore fashions created completely from Connecticut Post newspapers. The recycled fashions were the brainchild of Christopher D. Fountain, an award-winning hair stylist and teacher at Brio Academy of Cosmetology in Fairfield and Bridgeport.

The designers, and some of the models, bridesmaid dresses, discount designer bridesmaid dresses, are all in finest quality. are not fashion students. They are students at Brio aspiring to careers in hair and skin-care salons. It was actually their hair designs that were meant to be judged by a panel of experts, but the newspaper couture resulted from an effort to control costs.

\"We were trying to save on the budget so I came up with the idea of having the students make their outfits out of newspapers,\" said Fountain, burnt orange bridesmaid dresses who is known for his creativity and the fashions he creates from human hair. Fountain recently won first place in the Hair GaGa competition of the Golden Scissors Awards in Washington, D.C., and his human hair costume collection was showcased in the finale of Salons\' Hair Showcase.

\"I don\'t know where he finds the time to do all of this. This is a lot of work. It\'s all hand-braided and sewn lace out of hair,\" said Felicia Blake, 26, of Stratford, a recent graduate of Brio Academy, wedding dresses wedding dresses who owns Hair-itage Salon in Waterbury. Shed modeled one of Fountain\'s outfits.

Fountain said it took him three months, working eight hours a day, to make one of his outfits.

Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn of Project Runway would be proud of the students\' work, discount wedding dress discount wedding dress which was runway-worthy.

Dasy Saldana, 22, discount designer wedding dresses discount designer wedding dresses of Bridgeport, made a newspaper gown gown with lots of pleats and origami newspaper roses. It took her three weeks to make. \"I\'ve got so many layers of newspapers it\'s not funny. It\'s very heavy,\" Saldana said.

Shawn Deque, 21, of Bridgeport, wore a newspaper suit, including pants, a vest and shoes. \"I can\'t bend that much, but I can walk, beautiful wedding dresses beautiful wedding dresses\" he said.

Shavonne Andino\'s newspaper dress dress was designed and made by Taraine Chandler. Both are of Stratford.

\"We had fun doing it. I loved it. It allowed us to use our creativity,\" Chandler said.

Other students also made elaborate fashions out of human and synthetic hair. Bridgeport designer Melissa Seide, 22, included various types of colorful candy in her hair costume, which was worn by model Kelsey Morey, 19, of Monroe.
